Charles Perry

CP (as he is widely known) is probably the most experienced deckhand in the game fishing industry world wide. While he wasn't there in 1966 to wire the first 1,000lb Black Marlin on the Great Barrier Reef, he wasn't far behind! Born into a fishing family in North Carolina, he began charter fishing with his father at the age of six and has traveled the world, working with some of the finest captains. Away from the GBR, he runs a Paul Spencer built boat - Arin - in Madeira, wires tuna for the Stanford University Tag-a-Tuna program and is an instructor in Marlin Magazine's Marlin University.

In the Caribbean, he wired over 50 blue marlin six years in a row and he has spent fifteen seasons on the Great Barrier Reef, weighing in 29 black marlin over 1000lbs (and releasing many others), including a then Australian Record 1,417lbs fish. Wiring for internationally known angler Stewart Campbell for 12 years, he fished Ghana and the Ivory Coast, Africa as well as Madeira, the Canary Islands, and Cape Verde. CP wired five blue marlin world records and five spear fish world records during this time.
